Earl J. Woodcock, 80, of Boone, passed away at his home at Eastern Star Masonic Home Courtyard Terrace on Friday morning, Aug. 27, 2010, in Boone, where he and his wife have resided since February of 2008.
He was born Sept. 11, 1929, in Coal Springs, S.D., the son of Earl and Myrtle (Butler) Woodcock.
On Feb. 6, 1956, he married Viola Dacus at the Assemble of God Church in Scobey, Mont.
Earl was a bookkeeper for Hallet Construction and Zontelli Construction Company for a number of years. He was later employed at Pat Clemons as a grounds keeper and at Iowa State University in the maintenance department.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving with the United States Marine Corps from 1951 to 1953, a volunteer fireman in Crosby, Minn., for 20 years, a member of the American Legion, and a life time member of the Forty and Eight Club.
Earl enjoyed playing cards and dominoes.
His parents, Myrtle and Earl Woodcock, and seven siblings preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife Vi, of Boone; two sons, Bruce Woodcock, and Tim Woodcock, both of Tucson, Ariz.; two daughters, Cheryl Kantor, of Tucson, Ariz., and Tammy Swenson and husband Paul, of Burke, Va.; 13 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Erlene Ogg, of Vancouver, Wash.; and many nieces and nephews.
Earl’s request was to be cremated.
A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 30, at the First Methodist Church in Boone, with Rev. Andrea Kraushaar officiating.
Interment of the cremains will be at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to express their sympathies through a memorial may direct their gift to the First United Methodist Church.
