THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Saturday, August 14, 2010.

Bessie Peterson, 86, formerly of Stanhope, died Friday, Aug. 13, 2010, at the Boone County Hospital. Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 17, at the Foster Chapel, with Rev. Suzie Moore officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Arrangements were made with the Foster Funeral and Cremation Center.

Bessie Fern Zenor, daughter of Raynard and Pearl Baker Zenor, was born Aug. 22, 1923, in Boone. She attended Zenorville rural school. Bessie worked at the munition plant in Ankeny. On March 6, 1943, she married Wayne Pierce Peterson in Boone. The couple farmed northeast of Stanhope for 50 years retiring to Ames in 1993. For eight years, she worked at the Hamilton Hospital as a nursing aide. Mr. Peterson died Jan. 5, 1999. She had resided at the Eastern Star Center in Boone, since Nov. 29, 2007.

Mrs. Peterson is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Vernon and Charlene Peterson, of Ames; daughter and son-in-law, Christine and James Noon, of Ankeny; and daughter, Meri Peterson, of Ames; grandchildren and spouses, Angela and Daniel Mott, James and Wendy Peterson, Joe and Allison Peterson, Brad and Bonnie Noon, and David Noon; six great-grandchildren; Brandon and Trevor Mott, Sydney, Sage, Natalie, and Macey Peterson; sister, Dorothy Wisecup; brothers and sisters-in-law, Marvin Zenor; Billy and Erma Zenor, and Tom and Joanne Zenor; uncle and aunt, Arnold and Mildred Baker; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, and a sister. She was a member of the Stanhope Parish and very involved in numerous church activities.

She was also a member of the Royal Neighbors of America. She enjoyed cooking, baking and neighborhood coffees with her friends, and the light of her life was her family, especially her grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in memory of Bessie, to the Boone County Hospital Hospice Program or the Eastern Star Masonic Home.
