THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Friday, August 13, 2010.

Eldon C. Peterson, 82, most recently of Mason City, died Thursday, Aug. 12, 2010, at Heritage Care Center in Mason City. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 16, at Greenwood Cemetery in Ellsworth, with the Rev. Jon Anderson of Hampton officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Luther College Athletic Department.

Eldon was born April 6, 1928, in Story County, the son of Carl and Esther (Larson) Peterson. He married Doris L. Johnson Feb. 15, 1950, in Des Moines. He graduated from Luther College in Decorah in 1953. Eldon was retired from teaching in the Des Moines Public Schools in 1992.

Eldon is survived by his son, David (Kris) Peterson, of Decorah; two daughters, Linda (Jim) Herman, of Cedar Rapids, and Marlys (Ron) Hamann, of Mason City; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one brother, Paul, of Nevada.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Doris.
