THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Friday, July 23, 2010.

Burial for Melvin Jay Mundell, 74, a former resident of Colo, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 31, at the Goshen Cemetery south of Lucas on U.S. Highway 65.

Melvin was born Feb. 8, 1936, on his grandparent’s farm outside of Derby. He graduated from Colo High School in 1954 and retired from the Coast Guard after 20 years of service on Oct. 31, 1974.

Survivors include his five children, Carmen Hagopian, Carol, Sylvia and Heidi Mundell, residents of Texas, and Melvin Jay Mundell, of Hawaii. He was also blessed with seven surviving grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Other survivors include two sisters, Marie Chang, of Hawaii, and Janice Mundell, of New York, along with nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by Elfrieda, his first wife of 42 years and mother of his children; Judith, his second wife of five years; his parents; three brothers; and two sisters.
