Alfred Larwick, 82, died Thursday, July 22, 2010, at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. Services are pending with Soderstrum Funeral Home in Story City.

Alfred Larwick, 82, of Radcliffe, passed away Thursday, July 22, 2010, at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 26, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Story City. Burial will be in the Radcliffe Cemetery.

Alfred Larwick was born March 15, 1928, to Haktor and Elleah (Himmel) Larwick in Radcliffe. He was baptized and confirmed in Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Radcliffe. Alfred graduated in 1945 from Radcliffe High School. He was drafted into the United States Army in 1952 during the Korean War. He spent time in Seoul and Pusan, Korea, as a motor vehicle mechanic and driver. He was honorably discharged in 1954.

Alfred worked in the drafting area of the Iowa Department of Transportation for a number of years. After being sidelined with a bout of cancer, he became a self-employed mechanic. Alfred was a loving caregiver to his elderly parents for many years.

After another bout with cancer, he moved to the home of his sister, Martha Voga, where he lived until entering Israel Family Hospice House, in Ames. Alfred peacefully passed away July 22, surrounded by his family. He was 82 years old.

Alfred is survived by two sisters, Martha Voga of Story City, and Ruth Thorson of Ames.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Loren Larwick.

Soderstrum Funeral Home in Story City has been entrusted by the family with arrangements.
