Ray Romsey 88, of Story City died May 27, 2010 at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. Funeral services will be Wednesday, June 2 at 1:30 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Story City. Burial will be held prior to the service at South St. Petri Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Soderstrum Funeral Home in Story City. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in his name.

Ray was born April 28, 1922 in Story City to John and Carrie (Berhow) Romsey. He married Alice C. Olson on October 9, 1946. She died July 20, 2009.

Ray lived in the Story City area most of his life and was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church, where he served on council for many years. He managed the Story City Coop for many years and then at Boone Valley Coop in Eagle Grove for 10 years. Ray enjoyed woodworking, yardwork, feeding the birds, pumping gas at the coop and spending time with his grandchildren. He was proud of his Norwegian heritage taking 10 trips to Norway. Ray also volunteered for many years delivering Meals on Wheels.

Ray is survived by two daughters, Lorie Kepley of Ames and Trudi Stark of Nevada; two sons, Kirk (Helen) Romsey of Ames and Kevin (Kandy) Romsey of Gilbert; a son-in-law, Bill Knieps of Michigan; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Millie Olson of Story City; a brother, Laverne "Gus" (Colleen) Romsey of Clarion and two sister-in-laws, Frankie Romsey and Loraine Romsey both of Story City.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; a daughter, Janie Knieps; three brothers, Joseph, Thomas and Milford; an infant sister, Clara June and a sister, Sylvia Jones.
