James W. Shuey son of Henry and Lucretia Shuey was born at Warfieldburg, Carroll County, Maryland, April 3, 1852. He died at his home April 18, 1918 age 66 years. He cam to Sycamore, Illinois in 1870 and was married to Mary M. Middleton on April 5, 1879. The family moved to Collins, Iowa in the spring of 1887.
He leaves to mourn the loss his wife, one daughter Jennie, two grand children Mabel and Winfred Torry. Three brothers Sammuel of Westminister, Maryland; Theodore of Dawson, North Dakota and John of Collins, and a host of sympathetic friends.
The funeral was held at the home of the deceased, Rev. Fred W. Ingvoldstad of the Methodist Episcopal church officiating. A quartet composed of Mrs. Burch, Mrs. Surbein, J. G. Gingles, and J. R. Witmer from the Methodist church furnished the music. The remains were laid at rest at the Collins cemetery.
The relatives from a distance who were present were: Mrs. Mary Shuey and a son Edward and family of Mingo, Frank Shuey of Dawson, N. Dakota, Robert, Fred and Ernest Middleton of Sycamore, Ill. and the following friends: Mr. and Mrs. Warren Rider and Mr. and Mrs. Free Baker of Hubbard, Iowa.

NOTE: The submitter has found evidence that Lucretia (Carr) Shuey named as the mother of the deceased is misnamed and that James W. Shuey's mother was, in fact, Sidney Ann (Carr) Shuey, daughter of Samuel Carr of Carroll County, Maryland.
