TWO RESIDENTS DIED THIS WEEK

MRS. LENA ARNESON AND OTIS OLSON WERE CALLED BY DEATH

Two residents of this community died this week, Otis Olson passing away at his home three miles north of Roland Sunday morning, and Mrs. Lena Arneson at the Iowa Lutheran hospital in Des Moines Monday morning.

Mrs. Arneson, who recently returned here from California where she had been living for some time, was taken ill and underwent an operation for the removal of gall stones at the De Moines hospital last week. She failed to recover and died there at 7:30 o'clock Monday morning. She was 64 years old. The funeral will be held Thursday afternoon at 1:30 at the Jonas Arneson home and at 2:00 o'clock in Salem church.

FUNERAL WERE HELD LAST WEEK

LAST RITES FOR OTIS OLSON AND MRS. LENA ARNESON IN SALEM CHURCH

Two funeral services were held in Salem church last week, for Otis Olson on Wednesday and Mrs. Lena Arneson on Thursday. Rev. Olaf Holen was the officiating pastor and interment was made in the Roland Cemetery.

Mrs. Lena Arneson was born at Fister, Stavanger, Norway, May 6, 1870, and died at the Iowa Lutheran hospital in Des Moines July 9, 1934, at the age of 64 years, 2 months and 3 days.

She came to America in 1888 and lived at Morris, Ill., where she was married to Severt Arneson May 27, 1891. In 1909 they moved to Iowa and lived on a farm south of Roland for ten years, moving to Roland in 1919. Her husband died July 23, 1923, and since that time she has made her home with her children, recently returning here from California, where she had stayed for some time.

Besides her husband, one son, Oscar, preceded her in death, being killed in an automobile accident August 8, 1915. She is survived by eight children, Jonas and Bert of Roland, Mrs. Raymond Thorson of Sheridan, Ill., Mrs. Hiram Twedt and Mrs. Milford Olson of Roland, and Sigurd, Hiram and Porter of Los Angeles, Cal. She also leaves 23 grandchildren and the following brothers and sisters, Sven Halsnų of Norway, Mrs. Thor Tungesvick, Christ Hall and Gudmund Hall of Roland, and John Hall of Ottawa, Ill.

The pall bearers at the funeral were B. A. Rasmusson, T. A. Hereim, K. J. Hill, J. J. Thompson, J. J. Hill and H. M. Peterson. Mrs. T. A. Sorem sang a solo at the Jonas Arneson home, and at the church music was furnished by a mixed quartet consisting of Mr. and Mrs. O. S. Boyd, Mrs. Cyrus Thompson and Jos. O. Johnson. All of the children were present at the funeral with the exception of two sons, Sigurd and Hiram, in Los Angeles.

Among those from out of town in attendance at the funeral, besides the children, were Mrs. Halvor Lunde and daughter of Slater, Mr. and Mrs. Rasmus Hall and two daughters of Williams, Mr. and Mrs. Marshall Pearson and Peter Skogerboe of Story City, Mr. and mrs. A. J. Christenson of Ames, Miss Agnes Hall of Des Moines, Raymond Rasmusson and Mrs. Irma Lobaugh of Nevada.

CARD OF THANKS

We wish to express our thanks to all who assisted us and showed their sympathy during the illness and death of our mother, Mrs. Lena Arneson. We wish to give special thanks to Rev. Olaf Holen for his visits and message, to Mrs. T. A. Sorem and the members of the quartet for singing at the funeral, and for the flowers and offerings to the parochial school in her memory. - The Children.
