Jesse Gordon Solyst, 88, formerly of Story City, passed away Thursday, May 13, 2010, at Hubbard Care Center in Hubbard. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday, May 21, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Story City. Burial will follow at Story City Municipal Cemetery.
Visitation of family and friends will be from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 20, at Soderstrum Funeral Home in Story City.
Jesse Solyst was born Jan. 23, 1922, in Story County, to Olaf and Malinda (Nelson) Solyst. He married Marion Monson Jan. 18, 1944. Jesse served in the United States Army in World War II. He worked as a carpenter for Friedrich’s and built houses in Story City. Jesse was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and the Story City American Legion. He enjoyed dancing, and being outdoors, hunting, trapping and fishing.
Jesse is survived by his three daughters, Gloria (Owen) Sampson, of Story City, Barbara Ryan, of Des Moines, and Gayle (Robert) DeMasse, of Highlands Ranch, Colo.; one sister, Irene Boeke, of Webster City; and three grandchildren, Jason, Addy and Shantine.
Jesse was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one brother, Lester Solyst; and three sisters, Judith Friese, Charlotte Brandt and Gladys Fulmer.
