THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Friday, May 14, 2010.

Hildred Elizabeth Stenstrom, of Ames and formerly of Des Moines, died Wednesday, May 12, 2010. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, May 17, at Capitol Hill Lutheran Church, 511 Des Moines St., in Des Moines, with burial at Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines.

Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, May 16, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St., in Des Moines.

She was born April 10, 1918, in Iowa City, to Jessie May Proudfoot Clark and John Raymond Clark. Hildred grew up in the Des Moines area and graduated from North High School. She was a homemaker, school volunteer, 4-H and Cub Scout leader. Hildred began her career with Younkers followed by Blue Cross Blue Shield. She was a longtime active member of First Lutheran Church. In retirement, she was in the Genealogical Society, the Polk County Historical Society and the Pioneer Club.

Hildred is survived by her children, Deanne (Jack) Knox, of Austin, Texas, Robert Stenstrom, of Maiden, N.C., Ron (Dee) Stenstrom, of Ames, and Art (Becky) Stenstrom, of Des Moines; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Carl Robert “Bob” Stenstrom in 1996; her parents; sister, Virginia Reichenbach; twin sister, Mildred; and her grandson, Chad David Stenstrom.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Capitol Hill Lutheran Church or Southern Care Hospice.
