THE NEVADA JOURNAL, Nevada, Story County, Iowa, Thursday, May 6, 2010.

John J. Dull, age 86, of Marshalltown, entered into eternal life, Tuesday, April 27th, 2010, at Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center while under the care of Iowa River Hospice. A celebration of John’s life was held Saturday, May 1, 2010, at Elim Lutheran Church in Marshalltown with Rev. Karen Cluts officiating. Military honors will be presented by Frank Lewis Glick American Legion Post #46. Interment will be in Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. Visitation was Friday, April 30, at Pursel Davis Funeral Home in Marshalltown with a Masonic Service. Memorial contributions to honor John may be directed to: Shriners Hospitals For Children, Iowa River Hospice, or Elim Lutheran Church. John Jolly Dull was born July 29, 1923, the son of Thomas E. and Jesse (Calhoun) Dull, in Marshalltown. He graduated from the Marshalltown Class of 1942. John served his country honorably in the US Army from November 23, 1948 to December 1, 1949, and the Army Reserve from December 2, 1949 to November 2, 1953. John was united in marriage to Kathryn Wilkening on September 16, 1951 in State Center, Iowa. John’s employment included working on a dairy farm in Beaman, tank wagon driver for Standard Oil Co. from 1955 to 1965, and self employed as an oil jobber for Champlin Oil Co. until his retirement in 1978.

John was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed spending time with his family, grandchildren, friends, and relatives. John loved to visit people and take short trips, along with camping, fishing, hunting, reading, blue grass music and polka festivals. John was a member of Elim Lutheran Church, Marshall Masonic Lodge #108 AF & AM, Royal Arch Masons, Signet Chapter #38, King Soloman Council #20, Knights Templar of Iowa, St. Aldemar Commandry #38, Za-Ga-Zig Shrine Temple.

John will be dearly missed by his wife of 58 years, Kathryn, children, Kevin Thomas (Kristine) Dull of Marshalltown, Kristine Ann (Richard) McKibben of Albion; grandchildren, David and Matthew McKibben, Alexander and Ann Margaret Dull; and nephew, Jonathan Conner.

John was preceded in death by his parents, brother, George, sister, Ellen Conner, and grandson, Austin Thomas Dull.
