Charles “Chuck” Johnson, 80, of Ames, died Tuesday, April 27, 2010. Services are pending with Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames.

Charles “Chuck” L. Johnson, 80, of Ames, died of progressive supra nuclear palsy Tuesday, April 27, 2010, at home under hospice care. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, April 30, at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Ames. Inurnment will be in Ames Municipal Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 29, at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames.
Charles Johnson was born Aug. 28, 1929, in Story City, to Leonard and Velda Johnson. He served in the U.S. Army Airborne 511 during the Korean Conflict. He married Mary Catherine Gear Sept. 12, 1953.
He was a lifetime member of the plumbers and steamfitters local union 33, and a 55 year member of the American Legion Post 37.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Kay Johnson, of Ames; three daughters, Kim (Billy) Marples, of Elk Horn, and Melinda (John) Howard and Melissa McCormick, all of Ames; one son, Stacy Johnson, of Boone; four grandchildren, Morgan, Daniel, Angela and Madelon; one brother, Darwin (Jackie) Johnson, of Story City; two nieces, Sheri Allen, of Story City, and Paula (Greg) Monson, of Clear Lake; and two great-nieces and a great-nephew.
He was preceded in death by one son, Blair Johnson; one son-in-law, Doug McCormick; and one nephew, Rodney Johnson.
