Hudson L. Ballard Passes Away at His Home at Altoona, Mo., At Ripe Age of Eighty Three Years

Word reached here last week of the death of Hudson L. Ballard, at his home at Altoona, Mo., where the Ballard family have resided for the past five years. Mr. Ballard was born in Smyrna, New York, March 28, 1828, and died on May 3, 1911, being 83 years, 1 month and 5 days. The cause of his death was kidney trouble and dropsy, from which he had been a sufferer for half a year.

The deceased came to Howard township in 1861 and settled with his parents on a farm near Skunk River in the southwest part of the township, a short time later buying a farm of his own on which he lived until is removal from here about five years ago. After leaving here he sold his farm to K. O. Highland.

Besides an aged wife, he leaves one daughter, Mrs. W. O. Bates, of Altoona, Mo., and three sons, A. L. Ballard, of St. Charles, Iowa and Park and Bert Ballard, of St. Louis, and numerous other relatives. Those who knew Mr. Ballard speak very highly of him as a man who was a kind neighbor and respected by all with whom he associated. There are many of the older residents of this township who will remember him kindly.
