Mayor Larson's Father Dead

Aged Resident of Huxley Died Sunday Morning, Formerly Resided Northeast of Here, Was Highly Respected by All

Lars (Fjeldhaug) Haugen died at the Halvor Johnson home near Huxley on Sunday morning, Oct. 15, 1911, after a sickness of several weeks duration. The deceased was born in Baagkste, Skaanevigs Prestegjeld, Norway, January 14, 1827 and was 84 years and 9 months old at his death. In 1866 he was married and the next year came to Kendall County, Ill., living there for three years when he moved to Benton County, Iowa. He spent the summer of 1870 there but came to Story County in the same fall. He lived near Roland for about twenty years and then moved to the south part of the county where he made his home.

He was married twice and his second wife's death took place in 1896 since which time he has lived with his children, of which there are eleven to mourn his death. They are Mrs. Halvor Johnson, Huxley; Mrs. B. L. Olson, St. James, Minn.; Mrs. Torres Opstvedt, Slater; John H. Larson, Slater; James H. Larson, Roland; Johan H. Larson, Silverton, Oreg.; Louis H. Larson, Lakefield, Minn.; Miss Belle Larson, Colorado Springs, Colo.; Cornelius H. Larson, Devils Lake, N. D.; Ed H. Larson, Seattle, Wash.; Mrs. Elmer Thompson, Des Moines. All of these were present at the funeral with the exception of Johan, Cornelius and Ed Larson.

The funeral was held from Fjeldberg church at Huxley, Rev. J. N. Sandved, of this place, preaching the funeral sermon. The church was very prettily decorated and many were present to pay their last respect to a respected citizen. Mr. and Mrs. James H. Larson and son Leonard, Mr. and Mrs. L. M. Olson, of this place were present at the funeral. The Record extends its sincere sympathy to the sorrowing families.
