An Octogenarian Passes Into the Great Beyond

Samson Rorvig, one of the oldest citizens of this community died Monday at the age of 85 years

Samson S. Rorvig was born in Kvinherred, Norway, December 11, 1821, and died at his home, east of Roland, April 1, 1907, and was thus 85 years, 3 months and 21 days old at the time of his death.

He was married to Sicelia Upsanger, while in Norway, and who died January 16, 1905. To this union were born three children, all of whom were present at his bedside when he passed away. They are Mrs. Anna Nelson, of near Roland, Mr. Samson S. Rorvig, of near Roland, and at whose home he died, and Mr. Johannes Rorvig, of near McCallsburg.

Mr. and Mrs. Rorvig came to this country in 1873, coming to Clinton, Iowa, but the next year they moved to Story County, where they since have resided.

He was a quite and healthy man, which his great age signified but, of late years he has been sick more or less, necessitating his staying at home most of the time. He was a Christian and died as he had lived, a greatly beloved and highly respected man.

The funeral was held from Bergen church, of which he was an active member, on Wednesday, April 3, 1907, Rev. G. Smedal conducting the ceremony, and neighbors were present to pay their last respects to one whom they all honored. The remains were interred in the Roland cemetery.

The sorrowing ones have the heartfelt sympathy of their friends during the hour of their loss.
