THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Tuesday, March 16, 2010.

Violet Jeanette Shannon, 86, died Sunday, March 14, 2010, at Israel Family Hospice House after a battle with Alzheimer’s.

Violet was born Dec. 16, 1923, in Davenport, the daughter of Michael and Catherina (Joens) Grimmer. She married Virgil Joseph Shannon June 28, 1947, in Davenport.

She is survived by her children, Robert (Elaine) Shannon, of La Canada, Calif., Patricia (Tom) Horton, of Ames, and Thomas (Gina) Shannon, of DeKalb, Ill.; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband and one son, Michael.
