Osmund J. Vallem, the son of Jacob and Bretta Vallem, was born in Aurdal, Norway, on October 24, 1849 and died at his home in Northfield, Minn., Sunday evening, July 24, 1932, at the age of 82 years and 9 months. In 1868 he came to the United States, settling at Leland, Ill., where on Mar. 11, 1875 he was united in marriage to Miss Malinda Stevenson. Three years later Mr. and Mrs. Vallem moved to Story county, Iowa, where they lived on a farm near Nevada for a few years and then moved to Garden City. They lived there continually since that time, with the exception of several years, when they lived on a farm west of Roland. In 1915 they moved to Northfield, Minn., where they have since resided.

Twelve children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Vallem, of whom nine are living. One son and one daughter died in infancy and another son, Steve, of Rupert, Idaho, passed away at the age of 34 years. The other children, who with their mother survive, are Mrs. R. Danielson of McCallsburg, Iver J. Vallem of Ellsworth, Mrs. P. J. Peterson of Badger, George Vallem of McCallsburg, Martin Vallem of Garden City, Mrs. W. E. Michaelson of Thompson, Mrs. A. C. Lee of Radcliffe, Mrs. Arthur B. Hickox of Wilmington, Del., and Miss Briddia Vallem of Northfield. There are also 31 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Mr. Vallem was in his usual health until a year ago when he began to fail and was bedfast the last two weeks, passing away peacefully at 7:40 o'clock Sunday evening.

A funeral service was held at the home in Northfield Tuesday last week and the remains were then shipped to Garden City, where a funeral service was held Wednesday afternoon at the Martin Vallem home and at Zion church, Rev. B. K. Barstad officiating. The pall bearers were Franklin Lee, Ivan Vallem, Obed Lee, Kenneth, Gerald and Osmund Vallem.

Relative in attendance from a distance in addition to the immediate family, were Mrs. John Norem and daughter of Ottawa, Ill., Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Rasmusson of Newark, Ill., Peter Kirkus of Leland, Ill., Knudt Knudson of Algona, and Mr. and Mrs. Orren Danielson of Ellsworth.
