Thor Nerem was born in Ølen, Norway, on October 4, 1858, and died July 15, 1932, at Forest City, at the age of 73 years, 9 months and 11 days. The cause of his death was cancer of the stomach and he had been ill about four months.
He came to this country in 1880 and settled in Grundy county, Ill., and a few years later came to Roland where he lived until 1910, when the family moved to Forest City.
He was married in 1886 to Miss Susan Peterson and to this union four children were born. They are Ed T., Sam O., and Ole S. Nerem, and Mrs. Sadie Bakken, all of whom survive him. His wife preceded him in death April 12, 1902. He was married again on April 20, 1909, to Mrs. Marie Ljusness, who survives him.
Besides his wife and the four children, he leaves two stepdaughters, Mrs. Agnes Quintus of Garner and Mrs. Walter Horwedell of Sterling, Ill., three brothers, Martin and John Nerem of Roland and Torres Nerem of Story City, and nine grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at Immanuel Lutheran church in Forest City, of which he was a member, on Monday forenoon, July 18, Rev. N. O. Peterson of Morris, Minn., a brother-in-law of the deceased, officiating assisted by Prof. Oscar Hanson. Prof. Odvin Hagen sang two solos. The remains were then taken to Roland where a service was held in the afternoon at the Salem Lutheran church, Rev. Olaf Holen officiating, assisted by Rev. Peterson. O. S. Boyd sang two solos at this service. Interment was made in the Roland cemetery.
