THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Tuesday, March 9, 2010.

Marvin Shatto, 60, of Marshalltown, died Thursday, March 4, 2010, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minn., after a 17-year battle with MS. His death came peacefully at 9:56 p.m. with his loving family at his side. A memorial service celebrating his life will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 10, at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 3001 S. Sixth St., in Marshalltown, with Pastor Mike Herschberger officiating.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 9, at Mitchell Family Funeral Home.

In respect to Marv’s wishes and personality, the family invites you to attend in casual attire.

Born Feb. 2, 1950, in Spencer, Marvin was the son of Roy and Alma (Halbur) Shatto. He graduated from Spencer High School in 1970.

On Aug. 23, 1986, he married Linda Groen at Little Brown Church. They made their home in Nevada for three years until moving to Marshalltown where they have lived ever since. Marv was a workaholic, always trying to fit in an 18-hour workday. He was employed in several different professions and fields in his life, including Old Home Bread route driver, AAA Insurance agent, police officer in Atlantic, owner and operator of the Siesta Motel in Nevada, Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames in the custodial department, and most recently managed a Dollar General Store in Nevada until his health declined. He was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Marshalltown.

Left to cherish his memory are Linda, his loving wife of 23 years; three children, Becky Luing, of Nevada, Eric Shatto, of Newton, and Ben Shatto, of Ames; his grandchildren, Michayla and Carter Luing and Allissa Shatto; his siblings, Jim (Cheri) Shatto, of Fostoria, Gary (Rhonda) Shatto, of Springfield, Mo., Dennis (Debbie) Shatto, of Schuyler, Neb., and Sheri (Denny) Parrish, of Gilbert; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In death, Marv rejoined his parents; sister, Sharon in infancy; sister, Connie Holmes; and brother, Larry Shatto; as well as Linda’s parents.

A memorial fund is being established.
