THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Tuesday, February 16, 2010.
Mabel Louise Alfred, 90, of Ames, passed away Sunday, Feb. 14, 2010, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 18, at Adams Funeral Home in Ames. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 19, at Bethany Manor in Story City. Burial will be in Ames Municipal Cemetery.
Mabel was born Sept. 15, 1919, in Madrid, to Lawrence Ralph and Lenora (Cordary) Lewis. She married Erwin Alfred April 8, 1939, and he preceded her in death. She was a bookkeeper at Rexall Drug and Carr Hardware. She also worked as a server at the Elks Club. She enjoyed sewing, working in her garden, feeding the birds and playing the piano, but her greatest joy was spending time with her family.
She is survived by one daughter, Connie (Douglas) Lidster, of Adel; two sons, Ron (Janice), of Ames, and Larry (Betsy), of Olathe, Kan.; six grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother.
Memorials may be given to the American Diabetes Association.
Adams Funeral Home and Cremation Service is assisting the family with arrangements.
