THE NEVADA JOURNAL, Nevada, Story County, Iowa, Thursday, February 11, 2010.

Virgil Pershing Brooks, 91 of Nevada died on Wednesday, February 3 at the Story County Medical Center. Funeral services were held Monday, February 8 at the Central Presbyterian Church, 932 5th Street in Nevada with Pastor Scott Milsom officiating. Burial followed in the Nevada Municipal Cemetery.

Virgil was born on January 13, 1919 in Fernald to David and Jennie (Burnett) Brooks. He was a 1936 graduate of Milford School. On July 13, 1941, Virgil married Maxine Elizabeth Cooper at the Nevada Presbyterian Church. He was a farmer who loved the land. Virgil was a member of the Central Presbyterian Church and the Nevada Masonic Lodge.

Virgil is survived by 4 sons, Doug Brooks of Dallas Center, Steve Brooks of Mesa, AZ, Chuck Brooks of Aurora, CO, and Brad Brooks of Nevada; 3 daughters, Delores Heintz of Carrolton, TX, Jeanette Fetters of Urbandale, and Charlet Hallo of North Port, FL; 10 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Genevieve Myrland of Minnesota and Isabelle Hillis of Cedar Rapids; and a sister-in-law, Margaret Brooks of Hilton Head, SC.

Virgil was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Maxine on October 15, 1988, a granddaughter, Danielle Fetters, 3 brothers, Mervin, LaVern, and Lester, and a sister Virginia Jacobson.

A memorial fund has been established in Virgil’s name.

Virgil and his family were entrusted to Chet Ryan Mortuary & Cremation Services, Nevada.
