David Davis was born in Breconshire, Wales, May 10, 1848, and died at his home near Nevada, Story county, Iowa, May 8, 1902, aged 53 years, 11 months and 28 days, after an illness of about three weeks. He was united in marriage to Elizabeth Williams of Breconshire, Wales, June 12, 1873, and there were born to them six children, all of whom with his wife survive him. The children are Mrs. Mary J. Rupp of Maxwell, Iowa, Mrs. Cordelia A. Baker of Nevada, Iowa, and William J., Etta E., Ruth and Leroy, the last four of whom are at home. He was a member of the Baptist church in Wales and when he removed to America in 1880 he united with the Cumberland Presyterian church of Maxwell, as there was no Baptist church near. He was a worthy man and is much mourned by his family and friends. His funeral was conducted from his late residence in Richland township Saturday morning by Rev. W. B. Sandford, and he was buried the same day at Maxwell.
