THE NEVADA JOURNAL, Nevada, Story County, Iowa, Thursday, October 22, 2009.

Gleda Mae Hanson, 74 of Nevada died on Sunday, October 18 at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held 10:30 am on Thursday, October 22 at the First United Methodist Church, 1036 7th Street in Nevada with Pastor Kevin Leveck officiating. Burial will follow in the Nevada Municipal Cemetery.

Gleda was born on January 18, 1935 in Story County, Iowa to Lafe and Pauline (Hutt) Beal. She married Max Whitaker and to the union was born a son, Ardee and a daughter Rhonda. On July 29, 1972, she married Virgil Hanson. Gleda was employed at Donnelley’s, Story County Hospital and retired from ISU in the food service department. She was a member of the Coachman’s Club.

Gleda is survived by her husband, Virgil L. Hanson of Nevada; a son, Ardee (Lisa) Whitaker of Colo; a daughter, Rhonda Melton (Dean Schoppe) of Nevada; 6 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; a step daughter, Shawn Hanson of Nevada; and a step grandson.

Gleda was preceded in death by her parents and an infant son Douglas Whitaker in 1956.

A memorial fund has been established in Gleda’s name.

Chet Ryan Mortuary, Nevada, was entrusted with Gleda and her funeral arrangements.
