Harold Eugene “Gene” Corbin, 82 of Nevada died on Monday, October 19 at his home. The family will receive friends on Friday, October 23 from 5-7:00 p.m. at Chet Ryan Mortuary, 708 Fifth Street in Nevada. Private burial of the cremains, with military rites, will be held in the Evergreen Memory Gardens.
Gene was born on December 16, 1926 in Nevada to Orville Eugene and Juliea Oedlia (Sorem) Corbin. He served in the U.S. Army during W. W. II. On July 8, 1947, Gene married Laura M. Stemler in Ames. He was a carpenter. Gene was a member of the Moose Lodge and the Nevada American Legion Post. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, playing softball, and square dancing.
Gene is survived by a son, Rick (Alma) Corbin of Holiday Island, Arkansas; a daughter, Vicki Corbin of Nevada; 4 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; a brother, Virgil (Betty) Corbin of Winterset; 2 sisters, Joyce Swanson of Nevada and JoAn (Hugo) Jelden of Ames.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Laura on November 4, 2000, an infant great-grandson Darren Parker, a brother Otis DeWayne Corbin and a sister Darlene Brekke.
A memorial fund has been established in Gene’s name.
Chet Ryan Mortuary has been entrusted with Gene and his family.
