Gladys Fern Thorson, 95, of Story City, died Oct. 23, 2009 at her home in Story City. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 27, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Story City. Burial will be in the Zion Cemetery in rural Garden City.

Gladys was born July 9, 1914, near Radcliffe, Iowa, to Cernal and Selma (Olson) Knutson. She married Cyrus Thorson on June 16, 1943. He died Feb. 12, 1955.

She is survived by her daughters, Sharon Moore, of Ames, and Lois (Roger) Oakland, of Story City; seven grandchildren, Kevin Moore, Marcus Moore (Rebecca), Lisa Wiese (Jeffrey), Dan Oakland (Mayumi), Paul Oakland (Jessica), Rachel Winecoff (Ben) and Sara Leto (Joe); eight great- grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; two sisters, Ardyce Bishop, of Rock Hill, S.C.; and Doris Lewis (Max) of Wellman, and a brother, Jordan Knutson, of Tucson, Ariz.

Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three brothers and a sister.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 26, at Soderstrum Funeral Home in Story City. Memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church.
