THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Tuesday, October 20, 2009.
Ardis Dean Johnson, 80, of Story City, passed away peacefully Sunday, Oct. 18, 2009, surrounded by his family and loved ones. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 22, at Grace United Methodist Church in Story City. Burial will be in Story City Municipal Cemetery.
Visitation of family and friends will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 21, at Soderstrum Funeral Home in Story City.
Ardis Dean Johnson was born Nov. 6, 1928, in Story City, to Grant and Gladys (Tressler) Johnson. He was a lifelong resident of Story City and retired from the Ames Laboratory, U.S. Department of Energy, where he was employed for almost 40 years, retiring in October 1990. He was a longtime member of Story City’s Grace United Methodist Church and Kohinoor Lodge 576 AFAM. He graduated from Story City High School and married Helen DeLozier, of Jewell. To this union, three children were born.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Helen; their three children, Julie (Arlyn) Snitker, of Washington, Mo., James (LuAnn) Johnson, of Ankeny, and Karen (Mark) Ellson, of Woodbury, Minn.; their grandchildren, Jill (Mike) O'Dell, Lisa (Scott) Daugherty, Paul (Sarah) Snitker, Sarah Johnson, Emily (Mitch) Holtz, and Jennifer, Matthew and Nicole Ellson; great-grandchildren, Kaylee and Brooke O’Dell, and Braden and Drake Daugherty; his sister, Iva (Bill) Brattebo; and extended family that loved and adored him.
He was a man who lived a life full of dignity and grace that touched the lives of everyone he met. His greatest treasure was his family.
Memorial contributions may be made to Homeward Hospice or Grace United Methodist Church in Story City.
