Mildred S. Norris, 102, died Thursday, Oct. 15, 2009, at Story County Long Term Care, Nevada, Iowa.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct, 20 at Nevada Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Nevada with visitation at 11 a.m. prior to the service.
Inurnment will be inResthaven Cemetery in Glendale, Ariz. Memorials may be made to Nevada First Christian (Disciples of Christ) Church.
Mildred was born Aug. 6, 1907, in Worcester, Mass., the daughter of Harry and Harriet (Blenus) Sibley. She obtained a bachelor’s degree from Oberlin College, Ohio, in 1929. She married Frederick St. Clair Danforth, Sr. on Aug. 8, 1931. He preceded her in death in 1939. She then attended Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Philadelphia and graduated with a MRE in 1943. She married Lyman Worcester Norris on Sept. 10, 1945. He preceded her in death on Aug. 15, 1992.
She was dean of Women at Ottawa University in Ottawa, Kan., from 1943 to 1945. She worked as a quality controller for the Arizona Department of Social Services, retiring in 1976.
She is survived by three sons, Frederick St. Clair and Luetta Danforth of Mineral Wells, Texas, Timothy Dwight Norris of Ontario, NY, John David and Denise Norris of Charlotte, N.C., her nine grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; three sisters (one of which was her twin); one brother;and one daughter-in-law Charlene Norris.
Bacon Funeral Home and Cremaotory is in charge of arrangements.
