THE TRI-COUNTY TIMES, Story County, Iowa, Thursday, September 10, 2009.

COLLINS — Jack Christie, 81 (affectionately known by family and close friends as “Bob”), passed away on Wednesday, September 2, 2009. Services were held on Saturday, September 5th at the Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada. Burial followed the service at Evergreen Cemetery in Collins, Iowa.

Jack was born on October 29, 1927, to Irma (Kelso) and Ira “Jack” Christie in Des Moines, Iowa. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. He spent most of his career working for the City of Des Moines Parks Department and retired in 1994.

He was a dedicated public servant, serving as a long-time mayor of the City of Collins and active in Democratic politics. He loved nothing more than being in the great outdoors. He was passionate about fishing and hunting and always on the lookout for the elusive Morel mushroom. He passed this love down to his children and grandchildren.

Jack will be missed by his wife, Gloria; sons: David (Tami), Dan, Herk (Nicole), Jay (Kesha) and daughters: Sue Sheeler and Mary Lou (Rick) Denton; eleven grandchildren and five great- grandchildren.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers: Harold Christie and James “Jimmy” Christie; one son-in-law: John Sheeler.

Memorial contributions may be given to the City of Collins Fire and Rescue or Collins Parks Department.

Bacon Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
