THE TRI-COUNTY TIMES, Story County, Iowa, Thursday, September 10, 2009.

Jennifer Marie Steensland lost her valiant and courageous battle with brain cancer on September 5, 2009. She now goes to be with her deceased grandparents Max Burch, Everett Steensland and Frank and Carol Monek.

Jennifer was born on October 6, 1977. She graduated from Barrington High School in 1996 and the University of Iowa in 2000 where she was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega Sorority. She then attended and graduated from Chicago-Kent College of Law in 2003. From there she was sworn in as an Assistant State’s Attorney for Cook County. Her passion for the law and the ability to use it to bring justice for all was ever present in her.

She was blessed with an extended family and is survived by her parents Rebecca & John Monek of Barrington, Illinois and Greg & Linda Steensland of Council Bluffs, Iowa. Jennifer is also survived by her sister Amy Steensland of Council Bluffs, Iowa, brothers John and James Monek of Barrington, Illinois, as well as her nephews Tristan and Tyler Steensland. Her surviving grandparents are Jeanette Burch of Harlingen, Texas (formerly of Fort Dodge, Iowa), Avis Steensland of Huxley, Iowa and Gerrit & Florence Vander Meiden of Pella, Iowa. She leaves behind many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, family and friends.

Jennifer had a very strong faith which she demonstrated in every aspect of her life. Her center of focus was her family. Her nephews were the love of her life, spending countless, joyous hours with them. She cherished the role of “Aunt Jenny” and fulfilled her role to where Tristan and Tyler will always love, cherish and honor her.

Jennifer also enjoyed golf and travel. She will be remembered as a determined person who didn’t just set goals, but went about the hard work of achieving them. She enforced the law strictly, but with compassion and understanding. She had every gift in life except length of life. Jennifer gave the world 31 years of a positive and giving spirit, leaving behind an inspirational legacy.
