Lyle Wayne Olson was born on September 29, 1923, in Roland, IA, the son of Sanford and Bernadine Stone Olson. He grew up in Roland and graduated from Roland High School in 1941. He was baptized and confirmed in the Salem Lutheran Church in Roland. Wayne joined the Naval Air Corps and served during World War II. He graduated from the University of Iowa Pharmacy School in 1950. He was married to Arlene E. Hammond on June 13, 1948 in Roland. Wayne worked and lived in Fort Madison, Mount Pleasant, and Montezuma before moving to Keota in 1957. Arlene preceded him in death in July 1968. Wayne married Dorothy A. Fry on August 1, 1971, in Nevada, IA. He was a member of the United Church of Faith, the VFW the University of Iowa Alumni Assoc,. He retired in 1995. Wayne was an avid sports fan and golfer. He enjoyed collecting Lincoln Continentals, working in his garden and singing in the Keotones Barbershop Quartet. He died following a sudden illness on Monday August 24, 2009 at the VA Medical Center in Iowa City.

He is survived by his wife Dorothy Olson of Keota; children: Kent (Vicki) Olson of Mesa, AZ; Courtney (Yoshimi) Olson of Gilbert, AZ; Dennis (Janet) Fry of Warroad, MN; Carol (Jim) Dodge of Burlington, IA; Mike (Arlene) Fry of Nevada, IA; Dick (Lynn) Fry of Solon, IA; Sandy (Elwyn) Myhre of Nevada, IA; Constance (Steve) Soesbe of Nevada, IA; Cliff (Linda) Fry of Sioux Falls, SD; and Debra (Doug) Wunder of Ames, IA; 19 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; and a sister Iris Hagen of Cedar Falls, IA. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, wife Arlene, three grandaughters and a grandson.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, August 28, 2009 at the United Church of Faith in Keota. Visitation will be at the Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Keota on Thursday from 3 PM to 8 PM. Burial with military rites will be at the Roland Cemetery in Roland, IA, at 4:00 PM on Friday. A general memorial fund has been established.
