Bruce B. (Barney) Bushore Sr., age 79 of Fraser, passed away on Thursday, August 20, 2009 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames.
Bruce was born on February 1, 1930 in Fraser, Iowa, the son of Ira James and Florence Etta (Paris) Bushore. He graduated from Fraser School and attended DMACC for 2 years. During his life, Bruce had lived in Iowa, California, Washington, Texas, Arizona, Nebraska and also in Japan, Korea, Spain, England.
Bruce served in the U.S. Air Force for 20 years, retiring in 1968 with the rank of Major. He then worked as a die setter with DICO in Des Moines retiring in 1991 from DICO.
On August 20, 1953, Bruce married Elizabeth Mary Coleman in Valdosta, Georgia.
Bruce was a member of V.F.W. and American Legion of Boone. He enjoyed watching old military movies and history shows. He collected coins and was always interested in the politics in the news.
Bruce is survived by his 5 children, Bruce B. Jr. (Rhonda) Bushore of Monticello, Utah; Cathy (Jim) Strable of Huxley, Iowa; Kimberly Bushore of Huxley, Iowa; Ly-Lee Funk of Humeston, Iowa; Bonnie Lee Bushore-Barnett of Fraser, Iowa; 11 grandchildren, Erin Strable; Lisa, Brice, and Colleen Christopherson; Tina, Trae, Elizabeth, and Rebecca Bushore; Blaisze, Cade and Trinitie Bushore-Barnett; 1 great-grandson, Apolo J. Harkleroad; 6 siblings, Jackie Tabor of Fraser, Iowa; Jess “Sonny” (Millie) Bushore of Moingona, Iowa; Marvin “Butch” (Pat) Bushore; Roberta Smith of North English, Iowa; David (Joyce) Bushore of Ft. Dodge, Iowa; Vivian (Fazil) Khan of Moingona, Iowa; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Bruce is preceded in death by his parents; his wife in 1991; 2 grandchildren, Colt S. Bushore and Juliann Funk; 2 brothers-in-law, Frank Tabor and Gerald Smith and 2 sons-in-law, Scott Barnett and David Funk; infant brother, Leroy G. “Tuffy” Bushore
Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 25, 2009 at the Walter ~ Schroeder Funeral Home at Fifth & Story Streets in Boone. Burial was in the Bluff Creek Cemetery, northwest of Boone. Full Military Honors were conducted by the Boone Veterans Council at the graveside.
A memorial has been established for the Disabled American Veterans in memory of Bruce B. Bushore Sr.
