Collins Gazette 5-15-1913

Emmett Johnson was born Sept. 15, 1871 and died at his home, Saturday May 10, 1913 after a few days of intense suffering with pressure of the brain. Emmett never married but lived at home. He leaves his invalid mother, one sister Ruby, brother Wm. and a foster brother, Eddie Pulaski, one nephew and one niece with other relatives and friends to mourn the loss of a good friend and neighbor. Short services were held at the home on account of the mother who was unable to attend the funeral which was held at Ashton Chapel, Monday 2 p.m. Rev. H.E. Van Horn of Capitol Hill Church of Christ, Des Moines, gave a thrilling message "Living with a Hope of Beyond." A chorus furnished music. A large concourse of friends and neighbors attended. The floral offering was beautiful. Interment was in the family lot beside his father who died Dec. 18, 1909. Six neighbors were pall bearers. The I.O.O.F. of Mingo of which he was a member had charge of the services at the grave. His cousins, James Franklin, Mrs. Cora Elzberry and son, and Mrs. Wm. Barton, of Des Moines came for the funeral and a short visit. Friends from a distance attending were Mr. and Mrs. Hadley, of Newton, Mr. and Mrs. James Stock, Mrs. Frank Evans, Mrs. Chas. Evans, Carl Tiffany and family of Colfax, Mrs. Opal Welch of Des Moines. Friends sympathize with the family and especially the poor old mother
