Wallace Johnson died at the Lutheran Hospital Saturday, March 2, 1918. He had been in poor health several months and Thursday underwent an operation for an obstruction between the stomach and intestines, but he was too weak to stand the test.

He came to the farm where he has always lived with his mother, Sarah Johnson and her parents in the spring of 1865 when a lad four years old. the mother died May 9, 1914. Since that his cousins, Ruby and Wm. Johnson have kept the home fires burning for him. The latter and his family have been with him lately.

He leaves several cousins, twelve of whom were present for the funeral which was conducted at the home, Monday at 2 P.M. Interment was in the Ashton Cemetery beside his mother. The Odd Fellow Lodge of Mingo of which he was a charter member had charge of the services at the grave. Beautiful flowers adorned the casket, a quarttet (sic) sang hymns that he loved and used to sing.

He was a kind hearted industrious man. He had a large farm, well improved and in good shape. His fruit and stock were his hobbies.
