THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Friday, July 31, 2009.

Elaine Dykes, 75, of Bloomfield, died Friday, July 31, 2009, at the Hospice House in Ottumwa. A celebration of life gathering with her family will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 4, at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield

Elaine was born Aug. 12, 1933, in Des Moines, to Morris R. and Inez M. Owen Longnecker. She married Ray Dykes June 16, 1953, in New York City, N.Y., on the Bride and Groom Show. She taught school for 44 years in the communities of Maxwell, Sheldahl, Ankeny and Ottumwa.

Elaine was a member of the Iowa State Education Association, Wapello County Retired School Personnel, Retread Motorcycle Club, American Trike Association, Farm Bureau and Cattleman’s Association. Elaine and Ray enjoyed many motorcycle road trips and rallies throughout the U.S., Canada and Mexico. They also were actively involved in a cow-calf farming operation.

She is survived by a son, Darvin (Kim) Dykes, of Bloomfield; a daughter, Dixie (Fred) Hickcox, of Ogden; grandchildren, Clint Markley, Brock Dykes and Kyla Dykes Kelley; great-granddaughters, Alanna Markley, Kaydence Markley and Kylee Kelley; brother, Richard (Linda) Longnecker; and sister-in-law, Martha Longnecker.

She was preceded in death by her husband; two infant daughters; her parents; and two brothers, Keith and Billy.

Memorials have been established to Hospice of Wapello and Davis Counties, and to the Living Hope Bible Church in Eldon.
