THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Wednesday, July 22, 2009.

June V. Barnes, 92, of Ames, died Tuesday, July 21, 2009, at Northcrest Healthcare Center in Ames. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 24, at Adams Funeral Home in Ames. Memorial services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, July 25, at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Ames, with the Rev. Randy Gehring officiating. Inurnment will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 26, in Ivy Cemetery in Malcom.

June V. Barnes was born May 16, 1917, in Muscatine, to Fred and Velma (Palmer) Kepke. She was a graduate of Malcom High School, attended Iowa Teachers’ College in Cedar Falls, and graduated from Drake University in 1962. She received her library science degree from the University of Michigan in 1970. She was media director at Fellows Elementary School, retiring in 1981.

She married Arlo F. Barnes June 29, 1939. She was a member of Bethesda Lutheran Church in Ames.

She had lived in Ames since 1970, moved to Phoenix for several years, and then returned to Ames in 2000.

She is survived by one son, Keith (Karen) Barnes, of Ames; one daughter, Joye (Sandy) Outlar, of Landisville, Pa.; five grandchildren, David (Kara) Barnes, of Lakeville, Minn., Andy (Dawn) Barnes, of Lakeville, Minn., Kendra (Matt) Feeney, of Lafayette Hill, Pa., Amanda (Kurt) Woodley, of Lancaster, Pa., and Joshua Outlar, of Landisville, Pa.; and 11 great-grandchildren, Patrick Barnes, Anna Barnes, Madeline Barnes, Lily Barnes, Luke Feeney, Harrison Feeney, Madison Feeney, Bailey Feeney, Kate Bougie, Sam Bougie and Shea Bougie.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and one sister, Virginia Aldrich.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ames Public Library. She was much loved and will be missed greatly.

Adams Funeral Home and Cremation Service is assisting with arrangements.
