THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Saturday, July 11, 2009.

Margaret Toms, 92, of Nevada, died Friday, July 10, 2009, at Story County Long Term Care, Nevada.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 15, at Bethesda Lutheran Church.

Visitation for Mrs. Toms will begin at 10 a.m. at the Church and continues to the start of the service. Burial will be in Ames Municipal Cemetery.

Bacon Funeral Home and Crematory in Nevada is handling arrangements.

Margaret Toms, 92, of Nevada, died Friday, July 10, 2009, at Story County Long Term Care in Nevada. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 15, at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Ames. Burial will be in Ames Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church and continue to the start of the funeral.

Margaret was born Feb. 7, 1917, in Adel, the daughter of Shelby and Florence (Champlin) McGinnis. Margaret married Clyde V. Toms on April 30, 1938, in Bethany, Mo. Clyde preceded Margaret in death July 6, 1974. She had attended the University of Southern California and Iowa State University and graduated from Drake University with a degree in education. She taught at North Grant School in Ames.

She was a member of Bethesda Lutheran Church; past president of BLCW; member and past president of the Ames Woman’s Club, Chi Omega Sorority and rush advisor for 30 years; member of the Panhellenic Committee for ISU Sororities, member of PEO Chapter HN, having served as president between 1990-1992; and a member and Past Regent of the Sun Dial Chapter of the DAR.

She is survived by three sons, Philip (Cheryl) Toms, of Webster, Minn., Don (Paula) Toms, of Nevada, and David Toms, of Newport Beach, Calif.; one daughter, Ann Hull, of Costa Mesa, Calif.; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and one brother, Wayne C. McGinnis.

Memorials may be made to Ames Public Library.
