THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Tuesday, June 30, 2009.

William Joseph George, 72, of Nevada, died Saturday, June 27, 2009, at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 1, at Chet Ryan Mortuary, 708 Fifth St., in Nevada, with Pastor Brice Hughes officiating.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 30, at Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada.

Bill was born Nov. 25, 1936, in Kelley, to Charley Everett and Anna (Joiner) George. He attended Cambridge High School. On Dec. 21, 1957, he married Sharyl Ray Dobson in Nevada. He was the owner and operator of the Home Cafe and George’s Pizza until he retired in 2000. He enjoyed bowling, fishing and being with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Sharyl, of Nevada; five sons, Daniel George, of Boone, Bill George, of Nevada, David Mittlestadt, of Jewell, Michael Johnson, of Las Vegas, and Larry Dobson Jr., of Ankeny; one daughter, Anna Bonnell, of Seymour; four grandchildren, Amanda George, Adam George, Daniel George and Michael Shadle George; one brother, Paul George, of Anaheim, Calif.; and one sister, Nellie McGinty, of Florida.

He was preceded in death by his parents; nine brothers, Frank, Jack, Donald, Kenneth, Charles, Ferris, Ralph, Archie and Bobbie George; and two sisters, Betty Carr and Bernice Catron.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Bill’s name.

Chet Ryan Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
