Joyce Hilma Thompson

Sept. 18, 1927-June 13, 2009

Joyce Hilma Thompson, 81, of Ames, passed away Saturday, June 13, 2009, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 16, at Bethel Lutheran Church in Story City. Burial will be in Roland Cemetery.

Visitation with family and friends was Monday, June 15, at Soderstrum Funeral Home in Story City.

Joyce Thompson was born Sept. 18, 1927, in Roland, to Oscar and Judith (Thompson) Chelsvig. She married B. James Thompson Oct. 13, 1944. They farmed near Randall until 1985 when they moved to Ames. She was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Story City. She was active at the Senior Citizen Center in Ames, participating in bingo and care of many of the plants. She also was involved with much of the decorating at the Roy Key Apartments.

She is survived by two sons, Brad Thompson, of Ames, and Bruce (Jan) Thompson, of Ellsworth; one daughter, JoLayne (Ian) Weber, of San Marcos, Calif.; one daughter-in-law, Gayla Thompson, of Story City; her special friend, Francis Pffer, of Ames; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, Bryan Thompson; one grandson, Jeremy Thompson; one brother, Dale Chelsvig; and two nephews, Ricky Chelsvig and Richard Chelsvig.
