Emmett Martin Holland Nov. 21, 1910, to Nov. 18, 2003

Emmett Martin Holland, 92, of Nevada, died of congestive heart failure on Tuesday, Nov. 18, at Story County Long Term Care in Nevada, where he had been a resident since April of 2001.

He was born Nov. 21, 1910, in Kelley to Reinert and Marhta (Larson) Holland. He married Erma Estrem on Dec. 22, 1934, in Slater. He had been employed as a meat cutter and also had worked at the Nevada Poultry Company, Ames Community School and NADC in Ames. He was a member of Memorial Lutheran Church, Boy Scouts of America, Kiwanis, Red Cross and was a Sunday school teacher. He enjoyed flowers, family, volunteer services and being a bingo caller. He had been a resident of Nevada for 47 years.

Survivors include two daughters, Beverly (and Vernon) Peterson of Akeley, Minn., and Jeanne (and Bob) Cook; seven grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; two sisters, Elaine Martens of Ames and Elizabeth Raeside of Dubuque.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife on Aug. 22, 1992; 10 siblings; an infant daughter; and an infant grandson.

Visitation will be held on Friday, Nov. 21, after 4 p.m. with the family present from 7-9 p.m. at Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Nov. 22, at 11 a.m. at the Memorial Lutheran Church with Pastor Myron Herzberg and Pastor David Burling officiating. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Memory Gardens. A memorial fund has been established for the Memorial Lutheran Church or the activities department at Story County Long Term Care. Chet Ryan Mortuary, Nevada, handled the arrangements.
