THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Friday, May 15, 2009.

Loren Pevestorf, 82, of Nevada, died Wednesday, May 13, 2009, at Story County Long Term Care in Nevada. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 18, at First United Methodist Church in Nevada, with visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, May 17, at Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada.

He was born July 5, 1926, at a farmstead near Bagley, the son of Joseph and Grace (Umbaugh) Pevestorf. He graduated from Scranton High School in 1942, and farmed with his parents near Scranton until 1950. He served in the U.S. Army Infantry Division during the Korean Conflict. He married Mary Knight May 29, 1952, at Pleasant Ridge Friends Church in Coon Rapids, and came to Nevada in 1953 to begin farming. He was a farmer, seed dealer and U.S. rural mail carrier for 33 years. He was a deacon at Nevada First Christian Church for many years before joining Nevada First United Methodist Church. He participated in many corn and soybean yield contests. He was always ahead in new farm ideas and not afraid to try new techniques. He enjoyed many trips to Minnesota where he loved to fish. He suffered from Parkinson’s disease for 35 years.

He is survived by his wife, Mary, of Nevada; two sons, Ronal Pevestorf, of Norwalk; Roger Pevestorf, of Nevada; two daughters, Laura Lee (Ben) Ramirez, of Des Moines; Brenda (Dave) Janson, of Colo; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one brother, Darwin (Phyllis) Pevestorf, of Boone; and two sisters, Charlotte Hobart and Ruby Springer, of Jefferson.

Preceding him in death were his parents and one son, Russell.

Memorials may be given to Story County Long Term Care and Senior Citizens Community Building Fund in Nevada.

Bacon Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
