Lydia Ann McLaughlin died peacefully in her sleep, May 6, 2009, at her home in Boise. She was born to John K. and Helen Petersen July 30, 1920, at Polk County, Iowa. Lydia Ann grew up in Nevada, Iowa where she graduated from high school and went on to the University of Iowa to graduate as a registered nurse. She met her husband, James White McLaughlin there and became his wife in October, 1942. He predeceased her after 51 years of marriage in 1993.
Lydia Ann will best be remembered for her high energy, love of her family, joy for travel and ever ready for her next adventure in life. She was a long time member of PEO in Nevada, Iowa and Boise. She was involved in numerous groups, always loved a great game of bridge, and volunteered at St.Lukes hospital for many years after she retired from working there as a head nurse in 1978.
Lydia Ann is survived by her two brothers, William of Phoenix, Ariz., and John, of Nevada, Iowa. She was predeceased by her son, James Ian, who passed away in 1958 from muscular dystrophy.
She is survived by two daughters,,Mary Helen, of Boise, and Diane, of Federal Way, Wash., three grandchildren, Leo, Kristine, and Lesleigh, and one great-grandson, Carter, who is the newest love of her life.Services for Lydia Ann will be Wednesday, May 13, at 2 p.m. at the Cloverdale Funeral Home. Viewing will be Tuesday, from 6-8 p.m. Another memorial service will be conducted in Nevada, Iowa this July where Lydia Ann's ashes will be interred next to her husband's and son's.
In lieu of flowers, Lydia Ann's family request that donations please be made to the Jerry Lewis Muscular Dystrophy Association.
