Florence J. Brooks, 85, of Story City, passed away April 13, 2009 at Green Hills Care Center in Ames. Funeral services were held Thursday, April 16, 2009 at 1:30 p.m. at Elim Lutheran Church in Randall. Burial was in the Mamrelund Cemetery near Randall. Visitation was Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Elim Lutheran Church.

Florence was born Sept. 5, 1923 near Randall to Joseph and Anna (Eness) Weltha. She graduated from Randall High School in 1941, Florence married Kenneth Brooks on April 6, 1952. She was a lifetime member of Elim Lutheran Church in Randall, where she was baptized and confirmed. Florence enjoyed gardening and flowers and traveling with Kenneth, especially Hawaii and Norway.

Florence is survived by her husband, Kenneth of Story City; three sons, Steven Brooks of Story City, Douglas Brooks (Frances) of Hutchinson, Minnesota and Joel (Patti) Weltha of Story City; a daughter, Diane Ness of Story City; 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Robert and Judean Weltha and a sister, Ethel Sampson.

Soderstrum Funeral Home was entrusted with arrangements.
