THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Thursday, April 9, 2009.

John David Pepper, age 44, 1114 Westgate Avenue in Kelley, and formerly of northeastern Boone County, died at his home on March 29, 2009.

A Funeral Mass was Thursday, April 2, 2009, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Ames with Rev. Ivan Nienhaus officiating. Burial was in Saints Peter & Paul Cemetery, northwest of Gilbert. A Vigil service was held at Schroeder Memorial Chapel in Boone on Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m.

John was born in Des Moines on February 14, 1965, the son of William and Judith (McManus) Pepper. He graduated from Gilbert High School in 1983. On May 11, 1991, he married Tracey Hall at the Sacred Heart Church in Boone. John was a professional painter employed at Iowa State University from May of 1994 to November of 2007, when he was diagnosed with leukemia. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, outdoor activities, and neighborhood get-togethers.

John is preceded in death by an infant sister, Theresa Ann Pepper. He is survived by his wife, Tracey of Kelley; a son, John Raymond Pepper and a daughter, Sarah Katherine Pepper, both of Kelley; his parents, William and Judith Pepper of rural Ames; a brother, Raymond Pepper and wife Janelle of Woodbury, Minnesota; two sisters, Mary O'Brien and husband Joseph and Kathleen Pepper, all of Cranston, Rhode Island; his mother-in-law, Anita Roti and husband Dominick and his father-in-law, Raymond Hall and wife Patricia, all of Chicago.

Memorials may be directed to the family to be used at their discretion.
