THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Thursday, April 9, 2009.

Meta Elaine Schonhorst, 91, of Slater died April 5 at Mary Greeley Medical Center. Visitation was Wednesday evening at the Soderstrum-Riis Funeral Home, and services are Thursday, April 9, beginning at 11 a.m. at Salem United Church of Christ in Alleman. Burial will be at a later date.

Meta was born in Eldon, IA on July 3, 1917, to Francis and Etta (Cavanaugh) Gregorie. She married William Schonhorst on May 1, 1945, and was a homemaker. She enjoyed playing cards, camping, ballroom dancing, gardening and spending time with her family.

Survivors include four children: Janice (Don) Yegerlehner of Clay City, IN; Karen Schonhorst of Nevada; Steven (Chris Jones) Schonhorst of Slater; Robyn (LeRoy) Lutjen of Nevada; 10 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1991; a sister, Margaret Gregorie; and her brothers, Frank and William Gregorie.

Memorials are requested to go to the family.

Adams Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Ames, is handling arrangements.
