January 24, 1907AN OLD PIONEER PASSED AWAY
Mrs. Chelsvig was one of the pioneer settlers of Howard Township and was an octogenarian.
Last Friday morning occurred the death of Mrs. Britta (Skarhaug) Chelsvig at her home in this city, after a lingering sickness of several months.
Mrs. Chelsvig was born near Bergen on June 28, 1821, being 85 years, 6 months and 25 days old at the time of her death. She was married to Christen Erickson in 1857 and moved shortly afterwards to this country when they settled on a farm west of town. Four children were born to this union. They are Erick, of Story City, Isaac, of this place, Lars, of Washington and Halvor, of Kittson County, Minn. Mr. Erickson died in 1858.
She married to Ingebrit Chelsvig in 1860, who now mourns the loss of a beloved wife. They moved to Roland in 1892.
The funeral was held from Salem Church at 2 o'clock p.m. on Monday, January 21, 1907. Rev. Sandven performing the ceremony. A large number of friends and relatives were present to pay their last respects to the deceased. The Record extends it's sympathy to the sorrowing ones.
