E. C. Behnke of Ames Dies at State Hospital

Edward C. Behnke, 84, who had made his home with his son, Clinton Behnke, at 703 Crawford avenue since 1913, died at the state hospital at Iowa City at 5 a. m. Thursday. He had been in the hospital for three weeks.

Born in Germany, Nov. 18, 1851, he came to the United States with his parents when four years old. After living in Hancock county, Ill., for about 25 years he moved to near Mason City where he married Miss Jane Cleveland. After the death of his wife May 15, 1918 he came to Ames.

He is survived by his son, Clinton, one brother, A. O. Behnke, Hamilton, Ill., two sisters, Mrs. J. C. Arzberger, Nora Springss and Mrs. C. E. Arzberger, Grafton; also three grandchildren, Clarence, Letha Anna and Elson, all of Ames.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p. m. Sunday at Plymouth. Burial will be at Plymouth. The body will lie in state at the Duckworth Funeral home from 4 to 9 p. m., Friday
