THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Thursday, March 5, 2009.

Douglas Eugene McCormick, 55, of Ames, passed away in his sleep Tuesday, March 3, 2009. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 7, at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Ames, with Father Ivan Nienhaus presiding. Burial will be in Ames Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, March 6, at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames.

Douglas McCormick was born Dec. 9, 1953, in Albert Lea, Minn., to Clyde “Bud” and Zona (Ekle) McCormick. He spent his childhood in Rembrandt, and graduated from Rembrandt High School. He moved to Ames in 1976 and went to work for John Deere in Ankeny, retiring in 2006. He married Melissa Johnson in July 1988. He was a member of the UAW union.

He had a great sense of humor. He had fond memories of childhood baseball and had a real love for kids as he was a big kid himself. He was a big fisherman. He was a sports fan, particularly the Minnesota Vikings and Iowa State Cyclones.

He is survived by his wife, Melissa McCormick, and two daughters, Morgan and Madelon McCormick, all of Ames; his father, Clyde “Bud” McCormick, of Ogden/Boone; one sister, Dianna (Sean) Baker, of California; his in-laws, Chuck and Mary Kay Johnson, of Ames, and family; two nephews; and three nieces.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Zona McCormick, and one brother, Michael McCormick.
