Collins Pioneer Dies Tuesday In California

COLLINS—Mrs. Maggie Edna Fish, pioneer resident of this community, died Tuesday morning at a hotel in Long Beach, Cal., where she had been spending the winter. Death was caused by angina pectora following an illness of a few hours.

Her son, C. E. Fish, left Tuesday night from Des Moines by airplane to bring the body to Collins. Funeral arrangements are pending his return, but the body will be taken upon its arrival here to the C. E. Fish home and services will be held from the Methodist Episcopal church with the Rev. C. W. Hohanshelt of Waukee in charge. Burial will be in the family lot in Evergreen cemetery.

Mrs. Fish was born July 4, 1864, daughter of Elizabeth and John Derrett Gamble at the family home in Maxwell. She has spent her entire life in Story county in and around Maxwell and Collins. She attended the normal school at Nevada and later taught in the vicinity of Maxwell and Collins.

On Nov. 5, 1889, she was united in marriage to Charles Lester Fish who died April 12, 1930. Since her marriage she has made her home in Collins until last October when she went to California for the winter months.

Surviving are three children, Mrs. Myrna D. Sokol, Gamble Clair and Charles Edwin Fish all of Collins; eight grandchildren and the following brothers and sisters, Will Gamble of Maxwell and Chas. Gamble of Nevada, Mrs. Addie Douglass and Mrs. Jennie Richardson of Maxwell, Mrs. Sue Golden and Mrs. Carrie Tipton of Nevada.

Mrs. Fish was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church, a charter member of the Order of Eastern Star and of the El Deen club of the American Legion auxiliary in Collins.
