J. E. TIERNEY DIES AT DES MOINES
J. E. Tierney, 58, former publisher of several northern Iowa newspapers and recent-purchaser of the Story County Arrow, located at 113 Fifth street,, died Friday at the Hotel Kirkwood in Des Moines. He had been ill since last Saturday with pneumonia.
Tierney recently purchased the Arrow from Olav Smedal, Ames. Tierney was employed until two week ago on the Garner Leader, a paper owned by Bill Williams, former Ames Tribune publisher.
He formerly published papers at Panora, Lake Mills, Crystal Lake and Klemme.
Surviving him are his wife and two daughters, Mrs. Roy Igou, Mason City; Evelyn, Garner, and a son, Theodore, Los Angeles, Cal. Funeral services will be held in Garner.
