THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Friday, February 13, 2009.

Robert Harold Shaw, 89, of Ames, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2009, after a sudden illness. He lived his life to the fullest every day and will be greatly missed. A celebration of his life will be at 4 p.m. Monday, Feb. 16, at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Ames.

Born June 26, 1919, to Matthew McKnight Shaw and Lois Stover Shaw in Madrid, he attended Iowa State University, enlisted in the U.S. Navy in December 1941, and served in the Pacific on the U.S.S. McCall. He married Adelaide Urbutt Shaw on Jan. 9,1945, while on leave. After the war, they returned to Iowa and started a family while he completed his doctorate degree in agricultural climatology. He was a distinguished scientist and professor emeritus at ISU, and he lectured around the world. He retired in 1986. He was devoted to his family, and loved hunting, fishing and gardening, always sharing the spoils of his immaculate garden and raspberry patch. He gave all who were close to him an unwavering love and full belly.

He is survived by his children, Robert McKnight Shaw, of the White Mountains in Arizona, Thomas Carl Shaw, of Huxley, and Mary Marjorie Shaw, of La Vista, Neb.; his grandchildren, Michael Loong Shaw, of New York, N.Y., and Mei-Ling Shaw (Dean) Williams, of Iowa City; and his great-granddaughter, Iris Mabel Shaw Williams.
